The 3rd International Rice Congress (IRC) will be held on 8-12 November at the Vietnam National Convention Center in Hanoi. The IRC, held every 4 years, is the world’s largest gathering of the rice industry.With the theme “ Rice for future generations,” IRC2010 will provide a forum for representatives from the public and private sectors, including researchers, scientists, professionals, traders, and policymakers. Delegates will discuss the latest rice research, future technologies, trade issues, and policies that will define the future role of rice in supporting poor rice-dependent communities. Delegates are also invited to share their expertise, show their products and services, and learn about the latest developments in the industry.IRC2010 will include the 28th International Rice Research Conference, the 3rd World Rice Commerce Conference, the 3rd International Rice Technology and Cultural Expo, and the 50th anniversary celebrations of IRRI. Vietnam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) will also host the 3rd Ministerial Round Table Meeting comprising all agriculture secretaries or ministers of major Asian countries.Incidentally, the Irrigated Rice Research Consortium will hold its an nual Steering Committee meeting concurrently in Hanoi.Papers and posters to be presented will focus on the following themes/topics: policy, market, and supply chain; social and cultural dimensions in rice farming and communities; postharvest; information, dissemination, and innovation; climate change and rice agriculture; environmental resilience and ecosystem services; water availability and access; pest, disease, and weed manage ment; drought, flooding, and problem soils; closing the yield gap; harnessing rice biodiversity; molecular biology and “-omic” technologies; raising yield potential; and quality grain, health, and nutrition.This activity is jointly organized by IRRI and AsiaCongress Events Management Co.
